After that awesome trip to Turin at the start of the month, I've been a bit quiet on the blog front. You can remedy this by following me on Twitter where I talk crap almost every day.  @dannynorthphoto

I had a birthday and an awesome wedding anniversary shortly afterwards and between then and now I've mainly been planning my September.  I have some pretty cool promo shoot's coming up, more Muse dates and yet another Video shoot!  More info on all that when it starts to happen.  Last week I was in Morecambe shooting The Heartbreaks, you can check that out in this weeks NME, as well as a wee little fun article by me about why Leeds Festival is better than Reading.

Last week the rather awesome   www. louiseroberts .co.uk/  kindly let me and Mrs N. stay up at the family Croft in the Highlands of Scotland.  The original plan was to wander around just photographing stuff all day long for a few days, in the end camera mainly stayed in the bag and much wine was enjoyed instead.  I did however manage to grab a few Pano snaps...

This is the view from the cottage, a beautiful white sand beach was just down the road, but that was one of the occasions the wine beat the camera to my bag.

Leeds Festival tomorrow!  Really excited, I think it's my 7th, although only my 5th shooting.  So many bands I know and people I love hang out at Leeds, check NME.com for updates through out the weekend.

U2 // Turin

06 August 10

I tweeted about heading to Turin and working for U2 - it sparked a wee bit of interest so I thought I'd explain a little further...

Andy Willsher got hired to shoot the gig later tonight in Turin (and the previous sound check's) - Andy kindly asked me to come with him to edit his pictures live from tonights gig.  OF course, I was quite excited and took him up on the offer.  Then the bands PR asked me to bring my camera gear and shoot the sound check last night alongside Andy.

It was a blast.  The band played through about 5 or 6 tunes, stopping to talk about set idea's and changes etc in between.  It was a total honour to be witness to what felt like a private performance.  Especially at the end when the band turned off the PA and played a new song acoustically, apart from crew there was literally no one else there but me and Andy.

I've loved U2 since I was 16 and Achtung Baby first came out, so last night was a total buzz.

I really want to post a shot of what it looked like with just Andy  and the band in shot.  But they have to go through approvals first, as soon as I can get one up I will...

Secret Garden Party Portraits

02 August 10

I've added all the Secret Garden Party backstage portraits to a gallery on my website.  It's nice to see them all together in one place.

I shot these unassisted, just me, one speedlight, an umbrella, and whomever was so kind as to step in front of my lens.  The Gallery includes portraits of Marina, Coco, Reverend Sound System, Jolly Boys, Mercury Rev, David Rodigan, The Whip, Horace Andy, Gaggle, Lissie, Darwin Deez and more...

Take a peak....

Secret Garden Party 2010

26 July 10

Posted at 12:41

This weekend I shot Secret Garden Party along side Andrew Kendall and Andy Willsher.

I shot a bunch of back stage portraits when ever I could.  All of them taken behind the stage where the artist was just about to, or just had played.

Just one light, quick and easy to set up and effective results.

I can't believe just how much fun this festival was to shoot.  The 3 of us worked really hard to capture what I honestly think as the best festival coverage I've ever been a part of.  I can safely say, I think we nailed it.

Head over to the official gallery:
