Freddie // The Vaccines

Just digging around in my hard drives looking over a years work I found this...

Glasgow 3rd February, 2010.  Such a cold rainy day. Day One of the 3 weeks tour.  Everyone was huddled into the load-in door smoking, this was the first time I met Freddie and the rest of the band.  I remember them being vaguely worried about fitting into a bill that was so Electronically driven.  Glasgow was a fairly receptive crowd.  By the end of year I'd seen them play so many shows, ending with an over capacity rammed tent at Leeds Festival.  I just missed them on this most recent headline tour, I kinda regret it, having seen this image.  I'd love to have spent more time on the road with them.  A new friend of mine was lucky enough to do just that.  I met Christaan Felber out at the Escape to New York festival this summer.  Very nice chap and a great photographer.  Shot entirely on film, I'm really looking forward to seeing his tour pics.

I shot the Capital FM Jingle Bell Ball as their official photographer last weekend.  Had a blast, love shooting pop!  Nice working with my buddy Richard Johnson too.

Shooting the JJB in an official capacity is awesome, AAA stage access to some of the words biggest pop names.  Check out my HIGHLIGHTS gallery featuring Rihanna, Jessie J, One Direction, The Wanted, JLS, Ed Sheeran and loads more!

A few weeks back I was commissioned by Spin to shoot Spiritualised at the Royal Albert Hall.  A shot from the gig features as a double spage spread in the brand new issue out now.

Here's one that made the Spin online gallery.  Shot on a 17mm f4 Tilt and Shift.

Biffy Clyro // Shot on Film

I was reaching the end of a Q feature shoot with the band, we'd had such a great time, and the vibes were really good.  So I asked the band if they'd mind posing for me with my Mamiya RZ67.  These were taken quickly and with minimum fuss, but I do like them.  There's a depth to them that sparkles...  Biffy Clyro are Gents, I love the music and the dudes equally.

Shot on Iford HP5 400iso film stock, and light with an Elinchrom beauty dish, using Quadra rangers.  There's something about film. Magic.

I'll post some more from the session shortley, those were taken on the 5D MKII...  but for now, enjoy these:

U2 // A reprise

At the start of August 2010 Andy Willsher asked me to help him out with a little gig in Turin…    Read an old blog post for the background info:   http://www.dannynorth.co.uk/blog/2010/august/u2_turin

For one reason or another I never got round to posting that shot of Andy, so here it is.  Just me, Andy, a few crew and U2.

Here’s a wee gallery of shots I took at the band practice the night before the show.  They only played a handful of songs, but it was an absolute joy to shoot.
